	Project highlights the colonial legacies of technocratic experimentation in South Caucasus. The immersive time-based installation unites an API software and a research publication.
Located in south Caucasus and only populated with 3,8 million, Georgia became the second largest cryptocurrency mining country in a short time span. Grey areas in laws and cheap electricity have attracted more foreign investors to take ownership of the energy generated by Georgian hydropower plants. Consequently, Georgia has been buying most of its electricity from long-time invader Russia.

While cryptocurrencies like bitcoin have been falsely advertised to financially help ‘forgotten’ nations (as stated in report “Bitcoin for Governments”) , it has only tricked people into committing to short-term small scale oligarchy and giving away natural resources and land to the neo-colonial expansion.

Silkscreened concrete (Heidelberg Cement Georgia), steel, quarry waste ceramic high fire glazes
Kataula is a research-driven artistic project set in the limestone quarries of Kavtiskhevi, a village in Georgia profoundly shaped by the relentless extraction of its natural resources. At the heart of the work is a confrontation with Georgian legislation, which sanctions mining until total resource depletion, cementing a future of inevitable destruction. These extractive practices, rooted in colonial legacies of German industrial intervention in the region, strip the mountain of its organic essence, turning sedimentary rock into displaced fragments of its own ecosystem.

The project operates at the intersection of witnessing and intervention. Cement and quarry waste, the materials of industrial erasure, are reclaimed and reimagined. Photographic imprints are embedded into cement tiles, creating a tactile archive of the village’s existence. Ceramic bodies and glazes crafted from quarry waste serve as vessels for what the mountain has lost, refusing commodification and resisting erasure.

-&#38;nbsp;Heidelberg Materials (Previously Heidelberg Cement) is a German multinational building materials company. Operating across 50 countries, Heidelberg is a world's second largest cement producer, and third largest for ready mixed concrete. While being numerously accused of causing uncontrollable environmental destruction around the world, Heidelberg positions itself as a symbol of sustainability. 

Offering a counter-narrative rooted in the locality of Kavtiskhevi, Georgia told by the artist's grandmother: the work seeks to dismantle Heidelberg Cement’s carefully curated image of responsibility. Using Heidelberg cement (sourced from the limestone quarries of their native village Kavtiskhevi), the artist confronts the enduring legacies of German extractivism in the region. 
Georgian legislation, which permits mining until total resource depletion, underscores the eschatological violence of this process. Cement tiles, made from the same Heidelberg cement bear photographic imprints of Kavtiskhevi’s residents and non-human life, rendering the erasure visible. Meanwhile, quarry waste foraged on site is repurposed into ceramics and glazes, transforming them into artifacts resisting commodification. The resulting artwork seeks to reclaim the complicit material into a surface for truth-telling and accountability.

*On 27 November 2024, German Ambassador Peter Fischer, responding to a question about the trend of German investments, stated that a major investor, Heidelberg Cement, had left Georgia. However the mining still continues, now under Georgian shareholders.

Vienna, AustriaCollaboration with Riders Collective
In Austria,&#38;nbsp; food delivery workers, often migrants, face precarious gig‑work conditions without standard labour protections. A former delivery‑platform CEO once remarked, “The only requirement for a job as a food delivery person is to be able to ride a bike.” Yet these workers frequently endure freelance contracts that exclude them from collective agreements and leave them vulnerable to exploitation. During WIENWOCHE,&#38;nbsp; “state of matter” Verein (Ana Mikadze, Fabio Hofer) called for active solidarity in connecting the festival audience with the riders, whose work shifts were taken over by volunteers on a solidarity basis. In this way, the riders used their time off duty to learn about their rights and connect to colleagues, who they have been deliberately disconnected from through the working environments dictated by the platforms.A series of workshops and artistic public programming accompanied the intervention:
“Know Your Rights”, conducted by legal advisor Dania Kabil of the ÖGB, guiding riders through real‑life labour law scenarios.&#38;nbsp;Sessions on how to organize collectively, and on health &#38;amp; care for riders with health professionals.&#38;nbsp;Performative onboarding and guided tours, such as “Mapping Vienna’s Hidden (Food) Delivery Infrastructures”, as well as a screening of video portraits of Vienna-based riders.&#38;nbsp;*To protect the anonymity and privacy of food delivery riders,&#38;nbsp;no photographs&#38;nbsp;of them have been taken as part of this project.

They work at a secondary outsourcing company, where NDAs prohibit them from dis-closing any information about their work and conveniently make any form of protesting or unionizing impossible.’’

ENERGY AS A TOOL OF HYBRID WARFARE,&#38;nbsp;2022

Project highlights the colonial legacies of technocratic experimentation in South Caucasus. The immersive time-based installation unites an API software and a research publication.

Located in south Caucasus and only populated with 3,8 million, Georgia became the second largest cryptocurrency mining country in a short time span. Grey areas in laws and cheap electricity have attracted more foreign investors to take ownership of the energy generated by Georgian hydropower plants. Consequently, Georgia has been buying most of its electricity from long-time invader Russia. 

While cryptocurrencies like bitcoin have been falsely advertised to financially help ‘forgotten’ nations (as stated in report “Bitcoin for Governments.”), it has only tricked people into committing to short-term small scale oligarchy and giving away their resources and land to the neo-colonial expansion. 


Research connected stories, values and dreams of 30 cryptocurrency miners all across Georgia, mapping these stories with factual information to investigate the myths that circulate in the energy sector.&#38;nbsp;


The installation depicts a time span of 6 hours of an average Georgian cryptocurrency miner through their perspective. Installation consists of 7 elements (bitcoin mining rig (hydraulic machine), table, chair, computer, framed picture, water tub, plug) that have been taken out of the research participants room‘s and modified to simulate the alchemical processes that take place in their spaces.

Ephemera series come from an experimentation on temporality. The fascination for the dripping wax lead to the creation of perfectly unbalanced candles with different burning rhythms. The stoneware candelabras are inspired by Caucasian drinking horns and&#38;nbsp; tableware.&#38;nbsp;


The candles become short-lived objects, vulnerable sculptures. Their possible fall along with the dripping wax, enhances contemplation and unexpected outcome.
