Ana Mikadze (b.2002) is a Georgian artist and researcher of Armenian descent (Kars). From their background in industrial design, their work addresses the material and infrastructural legacies of imperialism in the Caucasus and traces them to the contemporary conditions of extractivism and labour. Ana’s work encompasses installations, investigations, texts, and material inquiries.

Ana Mikadze examines the impact of imperial legacies in the Caucasus. Invisible Threads traces the decimation of silk culture under Tsarist rule in the 19th century. The installation centers on a suspended woven and felted silk canopy, reinterpreting a Georgian domestic tradition of protective veils that warded off harmful gazes—here reframed as the colonial gaze. Surrounding wireframe structures reference a traditional baby cradle and the labor of reviving lost craft, a cocoon-bearing tree evokes universal sericulture origin myths, and the tapestry presents raw silk and its byproducts as aesthetic forms. Meanwhile, translucent organza sheets bear archival records of imprisoned women forced into silk production, linking craft, exploitation, and imperial economies.
